The New Book of Birds is a large and beautifully illustrated book dating from 1918 and subtitled 'An album of Natural History'.
Written by Horace G. Groser, the coloured plates were produced from paintings by George Rankin and various other artists were responsible for the black and white drawings.
There are twenty-one chapters, each devoted to a different bird.
As well as the beautiful full colour plates and black and white line drawings there are also many black and white photographs.
The cover is in excellent order considering it's age; just a bit of damage to the top of the spine {see below} and some slight scuffing to the bottom of same. Inside, the pages are bright and clean and the binding is a little loose in places but nothing is in danger of coming away.
There is a bookplate inside the front cover which dates it nicely to 1918.
A lovely book for any one interested in ornithology or the natural world in general.
Hardcover, 309 pages.
